We live in a world of incredible beauty and extreme intelligence. But you'd never know it from the news.
If we’re in a kayak heading into serious rapids, we will probably do something different than what we'd do on a sunny day in our back yard! That’s the power of context!
Our largest context, of course, is the universe. It makes a difference what kind of universe we believe we’re living in. Our Noon Club motto – “Something wonderful is happening” describes a universe of wonder and love and incredible intelligence.
Meanwhile, our global context is escalating insanity and danger. What are our priorities? They should be appropriate. But the overwhelming assault of bad news serves to distract and terrorize us, obscuring a simple truth: we are always creating our future. This is why it’s so vitally important to practice, and we do that every day at noon.
Is this your priority, to express the qualities you’d like the future to be made of? If I’m honest with myself, I’m challenged on this all the time. Something just happened as I was writing that urged me to react, to get mad, to give in to feelings and thoughts that would hardly qualify as what I’d like the future to be made of!
I need my daily practice, not just at noon but it’s a start. It reminds me that I’m authoring my life story; that I’m not disempowered spectator, which is what those who seek to control us would like us to be. Note: a doctor friend just mentioned that one immediate effect of the current angst about the coronavirus is that it has cleared the streets of the world. Protests everywhere have been neutralized. Interesting.
I’m so grateful for all of you who embrace our noon club priority, to be the change we wish to see in the world and to practice every day together. Onward!
Remember, context is everything.
